Our music instructors are accredited teachers, many with multiple degrees in education and music. Their unique and varied musical talents allow us to accommodate all ages and music levels. Classical, jazz, pop, or rock – simply share with us which genre interests you and we will find you the instructor that fits you best. Classes are available seven days a week, in accordance to store hours and school schedule availability. Janice Patricia Maitland

Janice Patricia Maitland, nee Roberts, began learning to play the piano at age 5 and immediately developed a love for music. She completed all theory and practical exams for music students enrolled in the Trinity School of Music.  In addition, she also completed exams in Musicianship as well as Singing exams as prescribed by the Royal Schools of Music. Her love of and thirst for music, particularly classical, led her to participate in Music Festivals which she won in her entry category. Over the years, she has taught children as well as adults to play the piano and learn theory which has resulted in several of her students successfully completing various levels of examinations. Recently, Janice returned to her first love, and teaches children and adults with the hope that they, too, will develop a love for music and appreciate its value to them and others with whom they interact.

Susan McMullen

Susan McMullen grew up in Stouffville and has been a resident of Uxbridge since 1989.  She is the mother of 4 grown children.  Susan began piano lessons at the age of 7 and ever since then, music has been a very important part of her life.  She has spent her life teaching, performing on piano and saxophone, singing in choirs, playing in concert bands, tutoring, composing, accompanying and conducting choirs and small ensembles.  

She obtained her RCM Grade 10 in piano and an Honours Bachelor of Music degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1983. While attending there, her majors were piano and saxophone.  Her focus was music education, so she learned how to play all of the band instruments as well as studied music history, advanced theory, composing, vocal and instrumental conducting, accompanying, orchestration, etc.  In 1990, Susan obtained her Bachelor of Education degree and her Ontario Teacher's Certificate from The University of Toronto.  She continues to take other music teaching courses at U of T through OISE and the Ontario College of Teachers, to add to her teaching credentials. 

Susan has taught many students over the past 30 years, ranging in age from 4 to 80.  She loves to share her passion for music with her students and always hopes that learning music will bring them as much joy as it has brought to her.  Susan is committed to her students and believes that they deserve the very best of her.

Sevan Nerses

Sevan is an accomplished and dedicated teacher with 15 years of experience in teaching Piano. Sevan studied piano performance, music analysis and harmony in her home country, Syria. In addition to teaching, she has extensive experience in directing choirs, accompanying singers, instruments and performing as a soloist.

She has won many awards for her performances. Her students were winners of international piano competitions that took place in many countries.

As a teacher, Sevan is passionate about working with students of all ages and skill levels. Her musical abilities combined with her extensive experience of working with children make her a valuable member of our teaching team.

Ljiljana Markovic

Ljiljana completed her Conservatory music studies in former Yugoslavia, and her Bachelor degree in piano performance at Laurier University and Bachelor in education at Western University here in Canada. She plays piano, organ, sings and conducts choirs as part of her professional and community involvement. She is a full time school teacher, and is happy to work with piano students as they continuously show her how creativity develops.

Ken Lai

Ken Lai is a dedicated and encouraging teacher who has many years of experience teaching many different styles of music.  Among his favorites are pop and classical. Ken has been teaching piano for over 20 years and has had students ranging from ages seven to 65. He was even a Yamaha Clavinova demonstrator in Hong Kong before he moved to Canada.  Ken has completed his RMC qualifications.

Ken strongly believes that if you put your mind into learning a song, you can learn anything!  If you believe in yourself, you can learn it. Ken encourages students to learn what they want to learn while still following the traditional piano instruction. It is never too late to learn!

Joseph Tam

Born in Manchester, England, Joseph has obtained his ARCT Diploma in Piano Performance in 2014 and his Grade 10 Certificate in Violin Performance in 2016 both from the RCM. He is currently a third-year undergraduate student studying Life Science at Queen’s University. Joseph has served as Assistant Concertmaster of the Queen’s Symphony Orchestra from 2016 – 2017.

As a pianist, Joseph won numerous awards at the Kiwanis Music Competition, Arts Richmond Hill Music Festival, and North York Music Festival. In 2010, he performed the Chopin Etudes at the Arts Richmond Hill Music Festival Gala Concert as a top prize winner. Joseph has given countless recitals both as a pianist and violinist, performing in venues such as the Glenn Gould Studio in downtown Toronto, Massey Hall in downtown Toronto, and the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts in Kingston among others. He has worked with Prof. Thomas Williams and Eva Svensson at a benefit concert raising funds for an extensive renovation project for one of the oldest church in Toronto, the Mount Carmel Catholic Parish. In the summer of 2013, he joined the Ontario Youth Orchestra for a music tour in China, performing at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music among others.

Recently, Joseph joined the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre Research Team, shadowing oncologists and working on a multi-institutional research project that studies the treatment of oligometastatic disease with advanced methods of radiation therapy. In his spare time, Joseph loves to study music history, literature, and chess.

Emma Clarke

Emma Clarke is a pianist, composer and music teacher inspired by musicians such as Laila Biali and Audrey Assad. She received her Bachelor of Music in jazz piano from Humber College in 2016 and is studying towards her ARCT with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Her compositions are featured on several recordings including her recent EP, Thirty-Seven, and the fresh edition of Humber College's New Standards.

Emma has taught privately, at Alexander’s Music Studio and at Pickering Christian School and will be teaching at Canada Christian College for the 2016-2017 school year. Christine Wallner

Christine Wallner is a concert pianist, music teacher and musician with over 20 years of teaching experience in piano, violin, flute, guitar and beginner’s cello. Mrs. Wallner successfully owned and managed her own music studios both in Vienna, Austria and Toronto, Canada. She has both the L.R.S.M., and A.R.C.M. from England and a Diploma from The Vienna Academy of Music and Fine Arts, Austria and she has performed in North America, South Africa and Europe as a soloist and with orchestras. Mrs, Wallner was also an official accompanist for Tim’s Choir in Malaga Spain. 

Recently she has taught both Music and German up to A levels at The British College in Torremuelle, Spain. Her results-oriented teaching methods have often resulted in her students going on to win numerous prizes at competitions and some becoming professional musicians.

Mrs. Wallner’s ability to work with children of various intellectual, behavioural and physical challenges allows her to encourage students to develop a love of music and a dedication to studying.

Ka Kit Tam

Mr. Ka Kit Tam is a foremost pedagogue and performer. He was a professor of piano at The Royal Northern College of Music in England as well as Hong Kong University, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Hong Kong Baptist University. Upon immigration to Canada, Mr. Tam continued to teach extensively. His students are winners in local and international piano competitions around the world, in Holland, Poland, and England. Mr. Tam also served as adjudicators for various music festivals and piano competitions. He is also a much sought after piano soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative artist, from coast to coast as well as in Asia, Europe, and North America. Mr. Tam has graced in numerous concert halls, working with world renowned artists including Anne Sophie Mutter, Tadeunz Strugala, Long Yu, etc. As a Chinese Canadian pianist and teacher, he was featured in a documentary on Omni Television.

Raisa D'Sousa

Raisa De Souza has been formally trained in piano since the age of 7 and has achieved her Grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music certification. She graduated from York University with a Bachelor’s Degree in French and is currently working towards her degree in Education. Her goal is to become an excellent French immersion teacher in the future and simultaneously continue to pursue her passion for music through teaching. Raisa has a wealth of experience with students of all ages and levels specializing in teaching young musicians and teenagers. Her style is based on the belief that the student and teacher learn from each other and achieve optimal success through laughter, practice, dedication and the enjoyment of music.

Leah Williams

Leah has been trained in piano for over 20 years. She has received the Grade 10 RCM qualifications and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Toronto. She is furthering her music education by working towards her ARCT. She has a love and passion for all kinds of music, but the Romantic Style remains her favourite.

Teaching piano and the love of music to students of all ages, is truly a passion of Leah. She believes that music can be learned at any age and that the three key ingredients to music success are dedication, willingness, and enjoyment.

Jean He

At the age of 13, Jean was accepted to both Juilliard and Manhattan Music Pre-School in New York. Since the age of 5, classical music has been Jean’s strength. She was already studying privately under numerous professors. In addition to an education in piano, Jean has participated in numerous piano competitions and performances, receiving a plethora of awards. She graduated from York University with an Honours degree in music. Aside from teaching at Toronto Piano, Jean is a piano accompaniment for other performers in concert halls.

Stephanie Tam

Born in Manchester, England, Stephanie received her ARCT Piano Performance Diploma in 2012, and also obtained her Gr. 10 RCM Cello. Stephanie has had many years of experience teaching the piano to all ages, ranging from 4 years old to adult-beginners. Stephanie is currently in her last year of studies at the University of Waterloo in the Science and Business program.

Apart from her studies, she shares passion for writing with the school community. She is also a member of the cello section in Orchestra@UWaterloo and the Chinese Artists Society of Toronto (CAST) semi-professional Orchestra, and CAST Philomusica. Stephanie is also a frequent performer at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, performing in chamber groups with professionals including Prof. Thomas Williams, Eva Svensson, William Findlay, Sergei Nikonov and Julian Knight (members of the TSO). In 2013, she took part in a music tour in China, with the Ontario Youth Orchestra, performing all over China, including the Beijing Conservatory of Music among others. Over the years, she has won numerous awards at Kiwanis Music Competitions, Arts Richmond Hill Music Festival, and North York Music Festival.

In her spare time, she enjoys making music with her siblings and friends.

Zane Hawley has been playing guitar for over 10 years with experience in a wide variety of musical styles, ranging from Jazz to Rock and everything in between. His education includes certificates and diplomas from Berklee School of music and Seneca College. He is currently in the process of completing his bachelor of music degree at Humber College.

Julian Hasko

Julian was born into a family of musicians, who helped build his musical foundation. At the age of 12, he was inspired to pick up the guitar and has loved the instrument since then. Today, he draws inspiration from his favourite musicians such as John Williams, Julian Bream, and Andres Segovia. Julian has studied under the instruction of classical guitarist Robert Hamilton, whose technical demands strengthened Julian’s skill.

Having received his ARCT, Julian has performed in numerous recitals and competitions throughout Canada and enjoys performing at festivals.
